As we wrap up 2018 in Atlanta real estate news, we took a minute to reflect on our top content for the year. From job promotions and housing predictions to the Piedmont Park expansion and the Color of the Year, here are the top 10 Atlanta Real Estate news stories of 2018 on Atlanta Real Estate Forum.

1. Piedmont Park to Undergo $100 Million Expansion: The City of Atlanta announced plans to create a gateway entrance to Piedmont Park at the intersection of Piedmont Road and Monroe Drive. The area is currently home to a shopping center and several restaurants. The 5-acre deal was worth $5 million.

2. The 2018 Spring HBA Parade of Homes: After a decade of not having a Parade of Homes, the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association brought the scattered-site parade back with about 80 homes on tour for consumers to tour. Homebuyers could choose to set up their home tour by location or by home builder.

3. 2019 Color of the Year Announcements: Atlanta Real Estate Forum announced the colors of the year for 2019 in late September 2018 and the post quickly became one of the most popular for the year. From Blueprint by Behr to Cavern Clay by Sherman-Williams and Night Watch by PPG, there is a wide range of colors available to decorate your home in 2019.

4. New Tower Home Available at Avalon: Monte Hewett Homes announced the first of two tower homes at its popular Avalon development in Alpharetta. Priced at $2.2 million, these courtyard homes set the bar for luxury at Avalon with large private courtyards and fountains along the grand lawn.

5. New Johns Creek Townhomes Available at Cresslyn: The Providence Group announced new townhomes in Johns Creek from the high $300,000s with 2,000 to 2,700 square feet of living space and front- or rear-entry garages. Basement homesites, terrace levels, sunrooms and more are available.

6. Edward Andrews Names Caroline Simmel Chief Marketing Officer: Caroline Simmel was promoted from Senior Vice President of Marketing to Chief Marketing Officer of Edward Andrews Homes. Simmel joined the builder in 2007 and has been instrumental in creating the home builder’s culture.

7. MaketNsight Expert John Hunt Predicts Demographic, Psychographic Reset: John Hunt of MarketNsight pointed out at his June 2018 MarketWatch Atlanta event that there is a distressing gap between new homes and resale homes at certain price points in the Atlanta housing market. He reminded MarketWatch attendees that this is the “new normal” and the market has reset in terms of demographics and psychographics. Atlanta is running out of cheap lots and lot prices are funneling builders into a $500,000 and higher price point that only a very small percentage of homebuyers can afford.

8. Knock Launches Trade In-Home Program in Atlanta: Knock enters the Atlanta market with a creative twist on home sales. Knock’s innovate home trade-in program solves timeline issues for homebuyers buying a new home and needing to first sell their current home. By combining technology, local market expertise and a 200-point home inspection, Knock’s goal is to competitively price and sell homes in six weeks or less.

9. Stephen Haines Joins Mark Spain to Open New Markets: Well-known Atlanta homebuilding executive Stephen Haines joined Mark Spain Real Estate as the Regional VP for Expansion Operations. In this capacity, he is responsible for growing the Mark Spain territory outside of Atlanta into the Carolinas, Nashville and more.

10. The Moderns Townhomes with Rooftop Terraces: Townhomes with large lots, rooftop terraces and fenced yards in a fun, hip area of town caught the attention of many of our readers. Built by Alan Cablike of Cablik Enterprises, and designed by TSW Architects, The Moderns is a community of 62 sleek modern townhomes.
