Are you looking forward to spring? At Construction Resources, we certainly are! One of our favorite things about spring is cooking out and there is no better place to grill out and entertain than in an outdoor kitchen! As you may have seen in the DiY Saratoga Soapstone Youtube videos we’ve featured, there are amazing things that you can do with a small space outdoors, from the perfect MLB viewing area to Tuscan dining patios and more!

As you start to plan your perfect space, take into consideration some tips from our designer.

For outdoor flooring, we recommend porcelain tile, as it is stable, easy to clean and rugged. It also has a straight, clean look that you don’t see in slate, concrete or brick patios. The other trend we are seeing is the use of larger 18 by 24 inch tiles rather than the traditional 12 inch square tiles.

When it comes to outdoor counter surfaces, the real winner is still granite countertops. Leathered or antique granite mimics a weathered surface from the start and has less maintenance for your outdoor prep areas. Concrete and slate are also good options, but concrete is porous and easily stains and slate has a tendency to flake which can lead to uneven food preparation and service areas.

Sinks can be tricky, but there’s one that few people are using that is really best for the outdoors, called Siligranit by Blanco. Siligranit is made from granite composite, and as such is very durable, stain resistant and easy to clean, as well as able to tolerate extreme temperatures and high humidity easily. If you’re looking for something more traditional, go for stainless steel rather than copper or porcelain.
