On Monday, August 14, 2023, we lost a true legend in the real estate industry. Felt across the industry, we are extremely saddened by the passing of George McClure. His decades of dedication within the home building realm will never be forgotten.
Developing The McClure Company in the early 1970s, McClure contributed multiple decades to the real estate industry building award-winning homes and creating an upstanding reputation for himself and his company.
Heavily committed to his community and fellow industry professionals, McClure served as President, Chair and Interim Executive Officer on multiple occasions for the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association and Home Builders Association of Georgia. McClure also served as a member of the State Department of Health Committee, president of the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce, member of the Cherokee Shrine Club and was in his 38th year as a member of the Cherokee Airport Authority.
As an HBA member, McClure was awarded a plethora of distinguished awards. In 1985 and 2002, he was named Builder of the Year by the HBA of Georgia. In 2005, he was inducted into the HBA of Georgia Hall of Fame. Additionally, he received the Lewis Cenker Award from the Greater Atlanta HBA in 1996 and was honored in 2018 with the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association’s Presidential Award.
We had the pleasure of featuring George McClure as our seventh Legends of Real Estate guest on the Atlanta Real Estate Forum Radio podcast to discuss his years of experience in the industry. When asked what the most rewarding part of his career was, McClure’s response was helping builders and homeowners achieve the American dream of owning a home.
McClure always had a warm smile and input on the growth of the association. He has been leaned on for decades as a codes expert. His expertise and personality will be deeply missed and his impact on the industry will be remembered for generations to come.
Visitation for Mr. McClure will be held on Saturday, August 19th from 10 – 11 a.m. at Revolution Church in Canton, Georgia. The memorial service will follow directly after.

George was my first builder/ developer when I began my career in On site new homes, starting January 1986 with his Manchester Properties at Magnolia Walk and then Rose Creek.even though I left while at Rose Creek We remained friends and would run into each other. George McClure was bigger than life and I still smile when I think of how “antsy” he always was and could not be still for anything. I learned from the very best!! I will miss the best! Camille
George was one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met. He had a great sense of humor. He was always supportive to me and fellow builders. He was a giant of our industry and will be sorely missed. My sincere condolences to his family and many
