Kelly Kingsfield, the Chief Experience Officer for Monte Hewett Homes, is a Georgia native that has been in the construction industry for nearly 20 years. Her focus has always been on customer experience, quality and sales, and in her position at Monte Hewett Homes, she’s able to continue doing just that.
As a female working in a male-dominated industry, it’s no surprise that Kelly has a fierce competitive side, an abundance of determination and an “I will NOT quit” attitude. This trait is perhaps most recognizable in Kelly’s most recent athletic feat – completing her fourth Ironman and posting a personal best swim time!
Kelly and her husband, Jeff, competed in the Ironman competition in Boulder, Co. on Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014. Taking place in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, the race began with athletes entering the water for the swimming leg at 6:30 a.m., with the race finishing more than 140 miles and 16 hours later. The Boulder race saw a total of 2,814 participants, with just 759 females and only 134 in the same age category as Kelly.
To train for this race, the Kingsfield’s each swam a total of 176,803 yards in the pool, biked more than 2,300 miles and ran 556 miles (beginning in late 2013). This intense level of training and a laser focus on swimming left Kelly able to complete her personal best swim time of 2.4 miles in one hour and 30 minutes, while biking 112 miles in seven hours and 41 minutes and completing the 26.2 mile run in six hours and 59 minutes. Kelly finished the entire race in 16 hours, 34 minutes and 30 seconds. To quote Kelly, “Not my fastest race but one of the hardest races I’ve completed given the tough course, intense heat and altitude of Colorado”.
Unfortunately, Jeff a four-time Ironman himself, fell ill during mile 124 of the race and was unable to complete the course. However, Kelly credits his constant encouragement, how he waited for her at several points along the run and his cheers from the sidelines as the reasons she was able to push through and complete her fourth Ironman.
Currently, Kelly and Jeff reside in the Chastain Park area with their kids and a bunch of kids of the four-legged variety. Their next athletic endeavor is Ironman Chattanooga for Team Challenge in September. Together, their goal is to raise $10,000 for Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America.
