Atlanta Real Estate Forum congratulates Julie Slappey for being named Council Chair of the Year for her work as the Chair of the Greater Atlanta HBA’s Sales and Marketing Council. Presented by the Atlanta Sales and Marketing Council, the OBIE Awards are the premier awards given in the Atlanta new home construction industry.

Julie Slappey truly understands creative marketing campaigns that produce real results.  She began her professional life with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Design from the Georgia Institute of Technology under the College of Architecture.  Julie immediately went to work with Smallwood Reynolds Stewart Stewart (SRSS), an architectural firm in Atlanta, where she handled large scale architectural projects from Atlanta to Singapore in the marketing and graphic design division.  She then moved to Jones Worley, where she worked as a project manager in Atlanta overseeing way-finding for large scale commercial building projects, including Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and the World of Coca-Cola.

Julie’s time at SRSS and Jones Worley provided a firm foundation for a career that would soon be centered on marketing campaigns for new construction home builders and real estate brokerages.  After working as a graphic designer at AtlantaNewHomesDirectory.com, she put her considerable creative talents to use at Peggy Slappey Properties, where she has worked for the past eight years as the marketing director and graphics/web Designer.

At Peggy Slappey Properties, Julie works to create an all-in-one source for builder marketing while simultaneously bridging the gap between builders, agents and vendors.  At any given time, she works with 20 different builders to provide full branding services, including original artwork, signage packages, event coordination, and even complete website design.  Her ability to keep all marketing services in-house and maintain control over them means that small to medium-sized builders can experience the benefits of first class branding in a streamlined way that is also economical.

With a deep understanding of the importance of industry involvement, Julie is a member of the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association, the Atlanta Sales and Marketing Council and the Professional Women in Building Council. She remains greatly involved in all of these organizations, giving freely of her time and talents when called upon.  She also contributes to marketing projects at the Northeast Atlanta Metro Association of Realtors.

In all, Julie has more than 12 years of experience in the sales and marketing field.  A full 10 of those years have been spent as a member of the Atlanta Sales and Marketing Council, where she joined the Board in 2009 and is currently serving as the 2015 Chair.

Julie has overseen many OBIE Award wins over the years for Peggy Slappey Properties and its building partners.  Each year, she orchestrates builder entries across all categories, as well as entries for marketing materials designed at Peggy Slappey Properties.  In 2014, Julie herself received the OBIE for Marketing Director of the Year. Shortly after, she interviewed with Atlanta Building News, discussing the 2015 sales forecast for all of Metro Atlanta.

Julie also feels strongly the need to stay involved at the community level. She has worked with Habitat for Humanity, where she volunteered to create the “Hoofin for Habitat” marketing materials. She later donated her personal time by volunteering in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and on a more global scale, she has led mission trips to Africa and Cambodia, working in orphanages and children’s schools. She also participated in a mission trip to Honduras, where she worked on large-scale building projects.  Julie continues to be an active member and leader at Gwinnett Church.

Next year, Julie and her husband, John will celebrate 10 years of marriage. They have two children – Lily, 5 and Cora, 2 – and spending time with all of them is what inspires Julie to excel professionally.  Last year, she ran her first half-marathon and plans many more in the future. The entire family is avid sports fans, but a house divided along friendly competitive lines, with John cheering for the University of Georgia and Julie standing by her alma mater, Georgia Tech.

The Greater Atlanta HBA is proud to recognize Julie Slappey as the 2015 Council Chair of the Year.
