Eugene James with Metrostudy is this week’s guest on the award-winning Atlanta Real Estate Forum Radio show. Eugene shares updated statistics on the Atlanta real estate market, and his interview is followed by a discussion with William Fogler of WM Events.

Eugene James is the Regional Director of Metrostudy Atlanta. Metrostudy is a company that literally counts houses; they are a real estate consultant advisory firm that goes out into local communities to see what is going on first hand.

In the second quarter of 2013, Atlanta had 3,700 new home starts, which is a 77 percent increase over the previous year. Additionally, in the last 12 months, we have started 70 percent more new homes than last year, which equates to 11,000 homes. Based on what he sees, Eugene predicts that home starts will continue to increase the rest of this year and next year thanks to an increasing job market and low inventory of resale and new homes. Currently, he saws the demand for housing is much higher than the supply, and builders are constructing new homes as fast as they can, but they are limited by a short supply of finished lots and a labor shortage of subcontractors.

Our next guest is William Fogler who is the principal and founder of WM Events, an event planning organization. William is a Denver native with an extensive background as a caterer who moved to Atlanta seven years ago to start his own event design firm.

WM Events mostly plans corporate, full-scale events designed around a specific atmosphere. This time of year, one of the most common types of events they are hosting are tailgating parties. For these, William suggests either farm to table style gatherings with mason jars and rustic accents or a more traditional style that is reminiscent of a stadium parking lot with a truck bed lounge and burgers and dogs. Fall is also when holiday parties and family gatherings are ramping up. William emphasizes that spending time with your guests and enjoying the people you are with is the most important aspect of any event; so, when hosting a get together in your home, focus on one really special thing instead of getting in over your head with a 12-course meal!
