The weekend is finally here! Before you head out, be sure and read up on some of the events from the past week. These may not have the same pull as say, a nation nearly defaulting on payments, but not all stories can be so heartwarming and magical. Anyway, here are some of the news stories making headlines that you may have missed.

Put down the turkey burger! Georgia officials are working to quell the nationwide salmonella outbreak by recalling ground turkey. More specifically, 36 million pounds of ground turkey processed in March at Cargill’s poultry plant in Alabama is being recalled throughout the U.S. To date, 76 people have become ill and one person in California has died as a result of the bad meat. For a full list of affected products, visit the GPB website.

If you’re going to the movies this weekend, “The Change Up” is debuting today. The movie was filmed in Atlanta, so be on the lookout for locations like Ecco, Joe’s on Juniper and Turner Field.

Do you need to lose weight? Do you have the urge to exercise in front of millions of people? Well, you’re in luck! NBC’s “The Biggest Loser” is holding a casting call at Hard Rock Cafe in Downtown Atlanta. If you’re interested, the event will take place on August 6 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

If you’re reading this blog post from a Starbucks, enjoy it while you can. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, rumors have been floating around that New York City Starbucks locations are replacing electrical sockets with blank faceplates. This is apparently in response to people abusing the system – setting up mini offices, loafing around for hours on end without buying anything, you get the idea. It will be interesting to see if the rumors are true and if Starbucks plans to extend this to all stores.

Anyway, remember to avoid ground turkey for awhile and have a safe and happy weekend!
