This summer, Traton Homes celebrates its 40th anniversary of building homes throughout the metro-Atlanta area. Though the housing market has had its ups and downs, Traton Homes has remained steady, building nearly 7,000 homes in more than 80 communities throughout Atlanta.

In 1952, Clifford and Red Poston started Poston Realty & Insurance, later known as Poston, Guthrie and Fowler. Red passed away in 1963 and in 1971, Clifford, sons Bill and Milburn and daughter Marian started Traton Homes. The name was formed using the first part of Milburn’s daughter’s name – Tracy – and Bill’s son’s name – Clifton (Clif), and combined the two to create Traton.

The strong work ethic in the Poston family continues to be put to work at Traton Homes. Bill’s sons Chris, the company’s senior vice president, and Clif, the company’s executive vice president, joined Traton in 1997 and 1999, respectively. Clifford, now 92, still arrives to work at Traton daily, and is an inspiration to the entire Traton family of employees.

The Poston family’s consevative nature has helped navigate Traton Homes through the recent economic downturn. The builder has been one of the few in the Atlanta market actively acquiring land and consistently opening new communities. Over the past three years, Traton Homes has begun building in more than 20 Atlanta new home communities.

Traton Homes has crafted a reputation as a solid, dependable builder, which is more important today than ever before. Its customer service process has been refined to improve communication internally and with home buyers throughout the entire building experience. Traton Homes has received the GuildMaster Award for excellence in customer service four years in a row.
