David Weekley Homes collects food for homeless delivering a holiday bouty to making a way housing

In a spirited effort titled “Giving Thanks, Giving Back,” the Atlanta Division of David Weekley Homes rallied to gather 1,889 items of non-perishable food and 2,114 pounds of frozen turkeys during its annual Thanksgiving Drive which delivers food for homeless people. This impressive collection, totaling 3,614 pounds, was donated to Making A Way Housing, an organization dedicated to aiding homeless individuals in Atlanta who are on the path to recovery. Alongside these substantial food donations, the drive collected $1,200 for the charity. Moreover, a significant $12,500 grant from the Dovetail Foundation, the charitable branch of the homebuilding company, has been earmarked for the purchase of new appliances for a transitional housing facility operated by Making A Way.

“From veggies, pastas, and soups to coffee, cake mixes, and more, our donors really came through for those in need this holiday season, and we are so grateful,” said Adam Cornett, Atlanta Division President for David Weekley Homes. “With the exception of the 151 frozen turkeys that were delivered to our Roswell headquarters on the final day of the drive, most of the nonperishable food items were delivered through our Amazon wish list. The remainder were dropped off at our model homes throughout metro Atlanta. I know I speak for my whole team when I say we are so honored to work for a company that places such a high value on giving back. We can’t think of a better way to kick off the holiday season than to fill a Ryder truck with food and bring some holiday cheer to our neighbors in need.”

David Weekley Homes – Atlanta Division – which was named the 2022 Builder Volunteer of the Year by the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association – partnered with HomeAid Atlanta to identify Making A Way Housing as its 2023 Thanksgiving charity to benefit from the annual food drive. In addition to Atlanta, David Weekley Homes hosts its national “Giving Thanks, Giving Back” Thanksgiving Drive in 18 other markets throughout the U.S. annually.

Through David Weekley’s Dovetail Impact Foundation, more than $250 million has been contributed to local and national charities over the last 30 years, including more than $385,800 in 2022 alone. Last year, David Weekley Homes team members volunteered an impressive 8,275 hours, impacting more than 321,200 people nationwide.
