Nestled away in Buford resides one of Georgia’s favorite destinations – the Lake Lanier Islands Resort. Located on the largest lake in the state, Lake Sidney Lanier, the islands are home to a wide range of activities and amenities. From a family day of fun to a romantic weekend getaway, Lake Lanier Islands is sure to have something for everyone’s tastes.

Now that school’s out for summer, parents are on the hunt for fun outdoor activities to do with their children. Come spend the day zip-lining through the great outdoors, taking a ride on horseback along a trail or pony rides along the shore and boating across the 30,000 acres of water. At night, get a hole-in-one during mini golf at Lakeside Links, then head back to your campsite for a lakefront rustic retreat. Don’t forget to make it out for Independence Day for the annual fireworks on the lake!

The highlight of your weekend will be a trip to Lanierworld, Lake Lanier’s very own water park! From wild slides and aquatic bounce houses to wave pools and Ferris wheels, this park will please both those seeking thrills and those looking to relax. On special summer weekends, Lanierworld even offers family-friendly Beach Flicks on the shore. The park opens at 10 a.m. each day, and closes between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. depending on the day. Admission is $36.99 for adults and children over 42 inches tall, $26.99 for those under 42 inches, seniors 55 and up, and active military and the park is free for children two and under.

Perhaps a relaxing, romantic weekend away is what you are looking for. Lake Lanier Islands is home to many “grown up” activities, including wine tastings, a spa, golf, fishing, tennis, sunset cruises and a summer concert series. Choose to spend the day pampering yourself at the luxury spa, Tranquility, with a couple’s massage, hot stone therapy and lavender salt scrubs. Or, if you’re more interested in a day on the green, tee off at the new Legacy on Lanier Golf Club. The course is incredibly scenic, with twelve holes situated along the water, and it is suitable for both avid and casual golfers.

Throughout the summer, Lake Lanier Islands provides a whole calendar of events to keep your nights fun and lively. Wine Cruises, Trivia Nights, Low Country Boils and “Master Piece Mondays” mark only a few of the events in store for the coming months.

After all of this weekend fun, who wouldn’t want to go back to a luxurious resort? Lake Lanier Islands is home to three resorts for your staying pleasure– the Legacy Lodge & Conference Center, Legacy Villas and the LakeHouses. LakeHouses is the perfect spot for a family getaway – pets included! There are 30 of these rustic cottages with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, decks, gas grills and lake or wooded views. The Legacy Villas include six 4,500 square foot villa rooms with modern luxury finishes and lakeside views, and the Legacy Lodge & Conference Center offers a more traditional hotel experience with rustic North Georgian charm. Make sure to check out the brand new outdoor heated saltwater lounging pool upon check in!

The islands are also host to a variety of seasonal and year-round dining options for you to enjoy during your stay. This summer, do not miss out on lakeside char-grilled burgers and cocktails at Sunset Cove with live music and tiki torches. If you prefer Italian, sit on the deck and enjoy authentic cuisine from Gianni’s Italian Bistro & Pizzeria. Other yearly dining options include Windows, tapas at the Butler’s Pantry and Bullfrog’s Bar & Grille.

The fun does not have to stop after one weekend. Lake Lanier Islands is the proud home to more than 20 wedding locations throughout the 1,500 acre resort. Capture the aura of a rustic summer romance in your reception and ceremony with a dedicated wedding specialist and event planner. On-site chefs, florists, photographers, DJ’s, musicians, and more are available for your use, as well.
