Did you know that Wednesday, May 15 is National Chocolate Chip Day? The sweet holiday celebrates the ingredient found in the most delicious of baked goods – bagels, brownies, cookies, muffins, pancakes and more.

The original chocolate chip cookie was created in the 1930s by Ruth Wakefield at her Toll House Inn in Whitman, Massachusetts. She invented the cookie by accident when she intended on baking chocolate cookies, but ran out of baker’s chocolate. She substituted her usual ingredient with chopped up chocolate morsels and soon found that those pieces didn’t melt as she expected. Her little accident has resulted in 25 percent of all cookies baked in the United States being chocolate chip!
