For as long as I can remember, Thanksgiving has marked the beginning of the Christmas season. Each year my brothers, sister and I would wait in joyful anticipation for that special evening when our neighborhood would light up with the seemingly endless amount of Christmas lights my neighbors put out.

This year I’ll be spending my Christmas season in Atlanta, which means I won’t have the opportunity to watch my neighborhood light up. Instead I’ll be heading to Macy’s for 62nd the annual Great Tree Lighting. The pre-show will begin at 6:15 p.m. and will be hosted by country radio station Kicks 101.5 FM’s Cadillac Jack.

The best part of the event is that in addition to the tree lighting, there will also be a concert. Grammy nominated singer, Josh Turner and Christian singer Mandisa will both hit the stage at Lenox Square. Famous hip-hop dance crew, SoReal Cru will also be out showing off their stuff. You might remember them from MTV’s second season of America’s Best Dance Crew.

The evening of performances will culminate with the lighting of the 70-foot white Georgia pine and a special Fireworks Finale set to holiday music. The event will be one to remember, but if you can’t get down to Lenox Square for the celebration, don’t worry because WSB-TV’s Channel 2 will be broadcasting the entire event live beginning at 7 p.m.

Mark your calendar, the Macy’s Tree Lighting in Atlanta is Thanksgiving night, Thursday, Nov. 26 starting at 6:15 p.m.
