Jo Jenkins, owner of JJ Bilt is in studio for today’s All About Real Estate Radio segment. Join co-hosts Carol Morgan and Todd Schnick as they discuss the latest with JJ Bilt on Atlanta Real Estate Forum Radio.
Jenkins, a 20-year resident of Atlanta, has a background in recreational therapy and sports marketing. After working in the sports and therapy market for a few years, she chose to step back from her career and raise her kids. After her children were older, Jenkins decided to return to the workforce and work in the building industry. She started with Home Built in the design department, choosing various design options for new homes. Jenkins was asked to stage a home after her expertise was noticed, and she fell in love with the work. After staging homes for other builders, she decided to start her own home staging company.
JJ Bilt is a staging company that works with new home builders to stage new homes to sell. After new homes are built Jenkins and her team stages the main living areas including living rooms, kitchens, dining rooms and master bedrooms. Jenkins adds in beautiful decorations and furniture to create a cohesive living space to help potential homebuyers imagine a future in a new home.
While Jenkins mainly works with new home construction builders, she has recently branched out to help Realtors stage homes to sell as well. After meeting with a builder or Realtor client, Jenkins visits the home and does an initial walkthrough where she takes a look at the space and gets an idea of what design options would look best in the given area. She then gathers the furniture and decoration she needs and returns to the home to stage it to sell.
“There are research and statistics that show staged homes sell about 87% faster than homes that are not staged,” said Jenkins. “I’ve staged two homes recently. One sold within three weeks, and the other sold within four weeks. One of those homes had been listed for several months before it was staged.”
Although Jenkins and the team at JJ Bilt will take on all kinds of projects, her favorite is new homes. These homes tend to have unique spaces like alcoves or hidden spaces that provide a staging challenge. Jenkins not only welcomes the challenge but also enjoys figuring out the best way to stage these fun spaces.
