HomeAid Atlanta invites businesses, community organizations and individuals to participate in its 2014 Essentials for Young Lives® Drive, which will be held April 28 through May 6 in honor of Mother’s Day. The 13th annual drive, which benefits homeless moms and babies, is a community-wide effort to collect essential baby items in an effort to provide aid to one of the fastest-growing segments of the homeless population – women and children.

Participants in the drive can collect essential baby items from their employees, customers, members, friends and families by acting as a drop-off site. You can also participate by making a donation of new items to any public drop-off site, including HomeAid Atlanta’s office in Tucker. Additionally, donations can be made online through HomeAid Atlanta’s baby registry at Target.

Items collected during the drive include pull-ups, diapers, baby wipes, baby food, formula and baby hygiene products. Everything collected during the drive will be distributed by HomeAid Atlanta to local nonprofits that serve homeless families and children in metro Atlanta. Many of these organizations operate facilities that have been built or renovated in partnership with HomeAid Atlanta, including the Atlanta Dream Center, Decatur Cooperative Ministry, Partnership Against Domestic Violence and many more.

Atlanta-based UPS is joining hands with HomeAid Atlanta for the eighth year to assist with delivering all of the donated items to the nonprofits. The items will be delivered just before Mothers’ Day, providing critical support to these organizations and the mothers and babies they serve.

The Essentials for Young Lives Drive was first launched in Atlanta in 2002. Since then, it has distributed more than 430,000 essential baby items. As the growth in homeless families increases the demand for homeless services, the need for essential items continues to grow. This Mother’s Day, it is HomeAid’s desire to honor and celebrate mothers by ensuring that they are given the tools to provide for their children’s needs.
