West Point is buzzing with the excitement of the new Kia plant, which has officially rolled out its first car. In late October, the Kia Sorento successfully made its way through the production line, and will go on display in the factory’s lobby.This particular Kia Sorento is history in the making because it is not only the first car made at the new West Point plant, it is the first Kia vehicle made in the US. For those that missed the monumental occasion, Kia will hold a ceremonial first car roll-out on November 16th that you are free to attend.

The West Point plant is the first U.S. manufacturing plant for the South Korean automaker and a happy addition to the Georgia economy. Directly, the plant has created 1,200 jobs immediately and anticipates another 1,200 workers to be hired next year, for a total of 2,400 new jobs in Georgia. Indirectly, the plant is expected to create up to 20,000 affiliated jobs throughout the state of Georgia.

While giving the West Georgia economy a boost, it will also do wonders for the local real estate industry, and there are many beautiful homes directly on Lanier Lake to choose from in the surrounding area. Other nearby cities include LaGrange, Gabbettville, Cannonville, Gray Hill and more.
