David Weekly Homes Thanksgiving Drive

No stranger to giving back to the communities that surround its stellar collection of Metro Atlanta neighborhoods, David Weekley Homes – Atlanta Division was named the 2022 Builder Volunteer of the Year by the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association. That honor was a shining example of the division’s devotion to carrying out its company’s founding principle of community involvement. A leader in volunteer and philanthropic efforts within the home building industry, award-winning David Weekley Homes hosts a national “Giving Thanks, Giving Back” Thanksgiving Drive in its 19 markets throughout the U.S. annually. Today, its Atlanta Division issued a call for donations and announced the list of drop-off locations for this year’s food collection event from November 1-17. David Weekley Homes – Atlanta has partnered with Making A Way Housing and HomeAid Atlanta to distribute those donations to families in need in time for Thanksgiving

“As a company, we take pride in ‘Building Dreams. Enhancing Lives.’ for the homeowners we serve,” said Adam Cornett, Atlanta Division President for David Weekley Homes. “However, it is never lost on us that home ownership is not guaranteed for everyone, and food insecurity continues to plague our neighbors in need. Earlier this summer, Reuters reported that U.S. hunger rates were on the rise – largely in step with the end of many pandemic benefits and increasing food prices due to inflation. Our hearts go out to these families, so our calls go out to Atlantans to help us put a full spread out on their Thanksgiving tables. We endeavor to make drop-off as simple as possible by hosting Thanksgiving Drive collection sites at five of our communities and our local division headquarters in Roswell. We also offer an easy online donation option through Amazon. Since the need has increased, we want our donations to follow suit. We hope to beat last year’s numbers, which included 878 pounds of canned foods, 1,277 pounds of non-perishable pastas and mixes, and 3,276 pounds of frozen turkeys. With the help of caring and compassionate Atlantans, we know we can do it!”

The “Giving Thanks, Giving Back” Thanksgiving Drive will be open from November 1 to 17 at the following locations:

Suggested items being collected at the model homes within the five active communities include: Cranberry sauce, Boxed stuffing, Canned vegetables, Gravy mix, Instant potatoes, Boxed macaroni and cheese, Cornbread mix, Instant rice, Boxed muffin mix, Dry bread mix, Graham cracker pie crusts and Gluten-free pie crusts. Frozen turkeys will be collected only on the final day of the drive – November 17 – at the Division Office in Roswell. Dropoff time for frozen turkeys that day is between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., but anyone arriving between noon and 2 p.m. with their donations will be treated to a complimentary BBQ lunch.

Drop-off times for all community locations are Monday – Saturday, 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM, and Sunday, 1:00 PM – 6:00 PM. Food for this drive can also be purchased through the builder’s wish list page on Amazon.com. Those who wish to make monetary contributions to aid in buying food for this drive can make an online donation to Making a Way Housing through HomeAid Atlanta.

Cornett added, “Making A Way Housing is an incredible organization that bridges the gap in the continuum of care for homeless individuals in Atlanta who are in recovery. Its transitional housing program primarily serves individuals who have jobs in the community or are enrolled in one of the shelter’s job training or educational programs. In addition to the donation of food, through the philanthropic arm of our company, we will donate $12,500 to the organization to help furnish their transitional housing apartments with much-needed new appliances.”

Through David Weekley’s Dovetail Impact Foundation, more than $250 million has been contributed to local and national charities over the last 30 years, including more than $385,800 in 2022 alone. Last year, David Weekley Homes team members volunteered an impressive 8,275 hours, impacting more than 321,200 people nationwide.
