Mell Hill with Oldcastle Surfaces is this week’s guest on the award-winning Atlanta Real Estate Forum Radio show. Mell talks about which type of countertop might be best for your lifestyle, and her interview is followed by a discussion with Rusty Pyrda and Walt Harrison of Habersham Gardens on spring gardening tips.

Mell Hill is the Vice President of Residential Sales and Marketing at Oldcastle Surfaces. Mell has been in the countertop industry and working with Oldcastle for more than 10 years.

Oldcastle Surfaces has been around since 1984, and they have six facilities in the southeast, making them the third largest distributor in the United States. At Oldcastle, you’ll find more than 400 colors of granite, 10 different brands of solid surfaces and a variety of quartz countertops as well. While granite still remains the most popular surface for new homes, if you cook a lot, you should actually consider installing quartz due to its scratch and heat resistance, nonporous nature, durability and easiness to clean.

Rusty Pyrda is the horticultural services account manager and Walt Harrison is the founder  of Habersham Gardens. Rusty is from Atlanta and has been gardening since high school, while Walt has also been in the industry his entire career.

For more than 30 years, Habersham Gardens has been a full service landscaping company and garden center here in Atlanta. They can do just about everything including plant installation, hardscaping, irrigation systems and more for both residential and commercial buildings. When planning your space’s landscaping, they both agree that function should come before aesthetics. You want to make sure you are putting your places in a spot where they will do well, wont impede traffic flow, allow for drainage and prevent erosion. Since it is officially spring, they say that now is the time to finish cleaning up your garden from winter and to start planting your early crops such as lettuce, spinach and arugula.
