Peggy Still Johnson, executive director of Callanwolde Fine Arts Center, is today’s Around Atlanta guest on Atlanta Real Estate Forum Radio. This month, metro Atlanta residents and visitors can enjoy Christmas at Callanwolde, a spectacular 16-day Christmas event and designer showroom.

Held Dec. 1 through 16, 2014, the holiday season turns the historic Callanwolde estate into a magical, wonderful place. The 40-year tradition features Christmas décor throughout the entire mansion and 12-acre estate. Geri Sims is this year’s featured designer, and her work can be seen throughout the estate in the lighting, the courtyard décor, as well as many of the children’s rooms, including the lego room that is sponsored by LEGOLAND Discovery Center and the teddy bear room sponsored by Build-A-Bear. The remaining rooms have been decorated by various other Atlanta designers, and all of the décor in the home is available for sale. The Callanwolde Fine Arts Center is a foundation, so the Christmas event is a fundraiser, meaning all proceeds will benefit the foundation.

Visitors to Christmas at Callanwolde can also enjoy tours of the mansion, live entertainment, seasonal workshops, family activities, a movie screening of ‘Elf’ sponsored by the Atlanta Film Festival, breakfast with Santa, Teddy Bear Tea and so much more.

Christmas at Callanwolde takes place weekdays from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Callanwolde is an historic Candler estate that was built in 1917. The home was built by Charles Howard Candler, the eldest son of Asa Candler, the founder of The Coca-Cola Company. Charles was the last Candler president of Coca-Cola before the Woodruff’s took over the company, and he was also a trustee at Emory. Today, Callanwolde is owned by DeKalb County and the foundation’s mission is to preserve the historic estate, which is a National Historic Site, while also providing fine arts and outreach to the community.

In addition to hosting fabulous events, like Christmas at Callanwolde, the center hosts classes for dance, music, pottery, photography and so much more. The center’s dance company is the second largest dance company in metro Atlanta, and it will be performing “The Nutcracker” during the Christmas events. Callanwolde is also starting its brand new recording program in January, which will feature three-time Grammy Award recipient Phil Tan as the Director of Music Recording.
