Amy McCoy with My Hometown Realty Group on Radio

My Hometown Realty Group Founder and CEO Amy McCoy joins the Atlanta Real Estate Forum Radio podcast to discuss fair housing and DEI. McCoy joins host Carol Morgan on the All About Real Estate segment to discuss diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) while sharing the difference between a Realtist and Realtor.

Serving the Georgia markets for over 17 years, McCoy is an active member on several real estate boards with previous experience as president of the West Georgia Board of Realtors. McCoy also shared she is a strong advocate for diversity and inclusion and defining equitable solutions for the housing industry.

McCoy said, “Through inclusion and the expansion of fair housing efforts, it is my hope that my reputation will continue to earn me that respect between my comrades and colleagues…so that those [who] want to invest in their community of choice, have an opportunity.”

Embracing the title of Realtist in place of Realtor, McCoy remains a proud member of the Realtor organization. Also known as the National Association of Real Estate Brokers, McCoy is a chairman of the Realist organization, providing a space for Realtors of color, a canvas for democracy in housing and access to resources.

McCoy said, “These organizations exist because we are still defining civil rights. The number one vehicle in wealth and building is real estate, so if we’re still defining that, then that means we still have work to do.”

With two locations in the metro area, My Hometown Realty Group is a boutique firm that places a strong focus on client goals. McCoy caters to clients residing in the state of Georgia as well as internationally. While serving as an advisor for the Atlanta Housing Authority, she noticed they lacked presence in communities desperately in need of affordable housing solutions. Recognizing these areas as the remnants from redlining and the difficulty obtaining traditional financing for areas of color, McCoy found sources outside of the U.S.  to obtain financing to revitalize Atlanta housing and increase property values.

The Dollar in Power community, a real estate syndicate co-founded by McCoy and professional black women, targets areas of color, not only from a residential aspect but also commercial reinvestment. When looking at rental opportunities, My Hometown Realty Group helps with lease procurements and management within the commercial realm but strongly focuses on residential.

When McCoy saw a need for affordable housing in certain areas, she recognized the chain effect of an unfair playing field. Through her personal experiences, McCoy recognizes the journey still ahead of the housing industry and uses that from a rental standpoint to assess accessibility and community values.
