With the unemployment rate at a steady ten percent in Georgia there are lots of people without jobs. The unemployment rate has remained fairly consistently at this percentage since last year. If you are one of the many people in the metro Atlanta area who has lost their job and is worrying about how to protect your Atlanta real estate investment, not to mention manage your money and preserve your credit, help is just a click away. The Equifax Finance Blog offers advice in a recent article by credit expert Mechel Glass. The article, “

Lost Your Job? Here’s How to Manage Your Money and Protect Your Credit Score,” offers a number of tips.

Glass is the Director of Education for CredAbility, and she frequently develops educational programs to help those with credit issues throughout metro Atlanta and north Georgia. She makes a great point that it is very important to manage your credit during unemployment because most employers will do a background check that requires applicants to have good credit. Glass says she knows money will be tight if you aren’t working, but she offers a number of great money savings tips.

–          Check to see if you are eligible for unemployment benefits with your state department of labor.

–          Ramp up a full-time job search and have a plan to market or sell yourself to potential employers.

–          Set a goal for the number of people you will reach out to each week. The more people you talk to, the faster you will find a new job.

These are just a few of the tips Glass offers.  Make sure to visit the
