Congrats to Gwinnett County Public Schools, which recently learned that it is one of six districts nationwide that will share in a $75 million grant from the New York-based Wallace Foundation to train, hire and support new school principals.

Gwinnett County Public Schools is the largest district in the metro Atlanta area and one of the highest ranking in student achievement. The grant will allow the district to extend its Quality-Plus Leader Academy Aspiring Principal Program, which provides principals with the knowledge, skills and talent that can only be taught through other leaders in the field. The funds will undoubtedly help maintain Gwinnett’s lead in school success, adding to the long list of advantages for parents choosing which county school system is best for the children.

The grant is being awarded to help school districts to “develop a larger corps of effective school principals and to determine whether this improves achievement across the district, especially in the highest needs schools,” according to a statement from the Wallace Foundation.

The Wallace Foundation will provide each district with $7.5 million to $12.5 million over five years; Gwinnett County Public Schools anticipates $3.9 million in grant money for the first year of the five-year program.
