Amanda Sutter & Trevor Beemon with Marietta Pilgrimage Christmas Tour

Amanda Sutter, executive director of Visit Marietta, and Trevor Beemon, executive director of Cobb Landmarks, are in the studio for today’s Around Atlanta segment of Atlanta Real Estate Forum Radio. Joined by co-hosts Carol Morgan and Todd Schnick, the group comes together to discuss the upcoming Marietta Pilgrimage Christmas Home Tour and how this popular event will be structured differently this holiday season.

Founded in 1982, Visit Marietta serves as a destination marketing organization for the City of Marietta. Its goal is to promote the city as a premier travel destination in the metro Atlanta area by showcasing the various hotels, restaurants, attractions, theatres and parks that make Marietta so great. Established in 1980, Cobb Landmarks strives to preserve the past for the future by maintaining historic sites and buildings that are significant to the area. This enables these historic locations to continue sharing stories and creating a sense of community for everyone to enjoy.

The Marietta Pilgrimage Christmas Home Tour originally started 34 years ago as a collaboration between Cobb Landmarks and the Marietta Welcome Center to provide visitors an inside look into some of the city’s historic homes. Each year, historic districts are rotated to highlight a different Marietta neighborhood and grouping of homes. Owners of these historic residences who sign up to part of up to be on tour decorate their homes for the season and open their doors up to the community. Approximately 2,000 attendees tour the homes every year. In addition, attendees have the opportunity to tour a number of other historic landmarks such as churches, sanctuaries and museums.

This year, the annual Marietta Pilgrimage Christmas Home Tour will look a bit different than in years past. Due to participants’ concerns regarding large crowds entering their homes, the tour has now been structured as an outdoor walking tour of the historic Cherokee and Church Street districts.

While attendees may not be able to step inside the home’s interiors, they will be able to admire the home’s beautifully decorated exteriors. This year, a few new additions will be added to the event to enhance the experience even further. These include a walking scavenger hunt and the ability for attendees to vote for their favorite homes based on a variety of exciting categories. While the typical Marietta Pilgrimage Christmas Home Tour takes place the first weekend of December, this year’s attendees have the entire month to peruse the historic district and the stunning homes participating in the event.

Beginning November 28, tour booklets will be available for purchase for $25 per booklet. These can be purchased at the Marietta Visitors Center or the William Root House Museum. Each booklet will provide photos of the homes on the tour, the official home names, the date built and other historic background information provided by the homeowner. The booklet will also include several coupons for attendees to use at participating vendors around Marietta Square.
