Apple Orchards

Fall is prime apple-picking season in Georgia. Just an hour from Atlanta, Ellijay serves as the unofficial apple capital offering numerous orchards where visitors can tour the orchard, pick their own apples and purchase handmade treats. From Mercier Orchards to Red Apple Barn, there are countless apple picking destinations to choose from.

For weekend fun, Red Apple Barn offers pick-your-own apples and a pumpkin patch, and the market is open daily. Further north, Mercier Orchards is a fourth-generation family- and veteran-owned and operated apple orchard. Its market and bakery are open daily and feature a wide variety of seasonally-inspired items including fresh fruit, homemade treats, made-from-scratch cider and specialty items.

Fall Hikes

Georgia is a haven for nature lovers, especially during the fall. In Cumming, Sawnee Mountain Preserve offers miles of scenic mountain trails along the foothills of the North Georgia Mountains. At the top of the trail system, The Indian Seats rock formation offers spectacular views overlooking the fall foliage of the canopies below. Other great fall hiking spots include the Harris Shoals Park in Watkinsville, as well as Chattahoochee Nature Center and Vickery Creek Waterfall in Roswell. Events/Attractions

Fall festival season may not be the same this year, but that does not mean there still are not other events and attractions to safely attend. Stone Mountain Park will also be holding its award-winning Pumpkin Festival where attendees can enjoy special fall attractions by day and not-so-spooky outdoor experiences by night. For more fall-inspired fun, mark your calendars for the annual Georgia Apple Festival taking place the second and third weekends of October. Festivities include music, car shows, entertainment and specialty products from more than 300 vendors.

For a good scare, Netherworld Haunted House is offering two “haunts” this year: its 25th Season of Screams! RISE OF THE NETHERSPAWN and RETURN TO PLANET X IN 3D, as well as four adrenaline-inducing Escape Games. Escape the NetherWorld will operate every day and night the haunt is open during the Halloween season. Families looking for a fun Halloween alternative will enjoy the Chattahoochee Nature Center’s Halloween Hike for a guided nighttime trek through the forest. Online ticket sales open October 8, and tickets must be purchased online in advance.
