Greene Family Learning Center: For Families of All Ages

The High Museum of Art, an Atlanta treasure, attracts visitors of all ages, serving as a leading art museum in the Southeastern United States. On today’s Around Atlanta segment of Atlanta Real Estate Forum Radio, the High’s Head of Museum Interpretation Julia Forbes joins co-hosts Carol Morgan and Todd Schnick to discuss the museum and its Greene Learning Gallery.

Always offering visitors something new to see, the museum currently has over 1,400 works of art on view and ever-evolving exhibits. As a part of the museum’s 50-year-long commitment to having a dedicated space for families in its galleries, the High opened a new installation of the Greene Family Learning Gallery in October of 2018, doubling the space’s size.

The Greene Family Learning Gallery serves as a place where families can explore their creativity together in fun activity areas. These discovery activity areas are inspired by some of the most popular objects in the Museum’s collection.

“Families want to make personal meaning together,” Forbes said. “They want to build a memory; they want something they can talk about and they want to do something together.”

Originally founded in 1905 as the Atlanta Art Association, the High received its first permanent home in 1926, when Mrs. Joseph M. High donated her family’s residence on Peachtree Street. Perfectly located in Atlanta’s arts district in Midtown, the High is a division of the Woodruff Arts Center. In 2010 it had 509,000 visitors, 95th among world art museums.

The High Museum of Art is located at 1280 Peachtree Street NE in Atlanta. To learn more about the Greene Family Learning Gallery, listen to the full interview above. Visit www.High.org for complete details regarding hours, current and upcoming exhibits and more.
