NAHB leadership

Members of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) elected 2018’s top leadership at last week’s International Builders’ Show (IBS). Four senior officers were chosen to represent members’ interests to government agencies, lawmakers and more who have the power to make it easier or harder for home builders to work hard throughout the year. The NAHB constitutes 700 affiliated state and local home builders associations and more than 140,000 members nationwide. The 2018 NAHB leadership will advocate, educate and conduct research on the behalf of builders throughout 2018.

The new NAHB leadership begins with NAHB’s 2018 chair is Randy Noel from Louisiana. Noel is a custom home builder and the president of Reve Inc., who has developed over 1,000 homes since its founding in 1985. Noel has more than 30 years of experience in the industry and several years of experience serving his state and local home builders association and the NAHB.

Greg Ugalde, a builder and developer from Connecticut, was elected First Vice Chairman of the Board. Ugalde has more than 24 years of experience in the industry and is the president and chief legal officer of T&M Building Co., Inc, which is one of the largest home builders in Connecticut. T&M has constructed more than 3,500 new homes in more than 40 Connecticut communities since 1962.

The Second Vice Chairman of the Board is Dean Mon from New Jersey. Mon has more than 30 years of experience in the home building industry and is president of D. R. Mon Group Inc., who develops and constructs “classic urban living projects” in New Jersey, according to NAHB Now. The company has built in Morris, Hunterdon, Union, Hudson and Monmouth since 1985.

NAHB’s Third Vice Chairman for 2018 is John “Chuck” Fowke from Tampa. He is the owner and president of Homes by John C. Fowke, Inc., a custom home building company which has built hundreds of homes in the Tampa Bay area. Fowke has 40 years of experience in the home building industry.

Granger MacDonald, the 2017 NAHB Chairman, will stay on as Immediate Past Chairman. MacDonald is from Kerrville, Texas and is the chairman and CEO of MacDonald Companies, a developing, construction and property management company with around 50 communities constructed and managed in Texas.

Finally, NAHB’s CEO is Jerry Howard from Washington, D.C. Howard has been the NAHB’s CEO and EVP since February 2001 and has been the NAHB’s chief tax counsel prior to becoming CEO. Howard leads more than 240 employees at the National Housing Center in Washington.

Noel stated the NAHB leadership would focus on the following priorities for 2018: “We will work this year to keep the housing recovery on track and to reduce burdensome regulations that harm housing affordability and inhibit job creation. We will also urge Congress and the White House to ensure that housing remains a national priority and to promote policies that will provide affordable rental housing and homeownership opportunities for hard-working American families.”
