Monte Hewett Homes Creates One-of-a-Kind Communities

With so many homes that look and feel the same on the market, it is refreshing when a home builder brings a one-of-a-kind approach to creating communities. On today’s All About Real Estate segment of Atlanta Real Estate Forum Radio, co-hosts Carol Morgan and Todd Schnick welcome back All About Real Estate hall-of-famer, Monte Hewett, president and chief design officer of Monte Hewett Homes.

Monte Hewett has been in the home building industry since 1984. He founded Monte Hewett Homes in 2000 after moving to Atlanta. Initially, the company released standard homes and communities and has gradually adjusted to become the custom product creator it is today.

After seeing the impact of traffic on standard new home communities outside the perimeter, Monte Hewett shifted his focus inside the perimeter. There, his company ran into the trouble of acquiring lots of many different sizes and construction in a more dense environment. Product customization offered a solution.

During the recession, however, Monte took the time to conduct on-the-ground research. To find out where people wanted to live and why, he would ride his bike in Decatur, Smyrna, Windward and other locations where people were looking to downsize. A huge draw to any location for those buyers, he says, was walkability, pet-friendliness, authenticity, good schools and parks. This inspired the unique perspective that would become the beginning of many successful communities.

“You have to look at the location and start from scratch,” said Monte. “You can’t do the same thing in Decatur that you’d do in Atlanta or Druid Hills.”

So, Monte Hewett Homes brought the walkability and authenticity of Atlanta to locations near Buckhead and outside the perimeter for people who did not want to move away far from their families. The best example of the company’s approach is Avalon, a community in Alpharetta within walking distance of countless upscale restaurants, shops, a private community green space and pool and more. The Park at Historic Roswell offers the same with a deluxe community of townhomes steps away from Canton Street and more that capture the community atmosphere in Roswell. All of his communities, from Avalon to St. Andrews to his newest community at Landen Pine, he says, have a sense of place and thoughtful details that add to the community’s location and the lifestyle of the residents.
