Newland Communities

Parenting is a tough job for people with young children and older children alike. It is hard for parents to know the best way to instill a passion for giving back to the community in their children. Fortunately, doing just that, in addition to strengthening the relationships between fathers and their children, is the specialty of Cool Dads Rock.

On today’s Around Atlanta segment of Atlanta Real Estate Forum Radio, Cool Dads Rock founder and CEO La Verio “LV” Barnes talks with co-hosts Todd Schnick and Carol Morgan about what Cool Dads Rock is doing in Atlanta to help fathers build lasting and memorable relationships with their children.

Cool Dads Rock began with Facebook, a hashtag and the relationship between LV, a DJ and his son. LV would take his son with him everywhere, from the recording studio to lunch meetings to the park and would share the time he spent with his son on social media. This garnered positive responses from his friends on social media, including a friend who was in a custody battle. To encourage his friend, LV sent him a message with the hashtag “#CoolDadsRock” and was inspired to create a Facebook page dedicated to sharing the experiences of his father friends and their children and providing encouragement. Later, Cool Dads Rock hosted its first event, a family-friendly soap box derby, which has evolved into an annual festival attended by up to 400 people.

The Fifth Annual Cool Dads Rock Soap Box Derby Festival will be held on August 5 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Historic Old Fourth Ward Park. LV says the soap box derby helps strengthen the relationships between fathers and their children by getting them to take the time to create a wooden car together. Sketching the car’s design, buying the materials and putting the car together, LV says, builds more time that children want to spend with their parents and creates lasting memories. The Soap Box Derby is free and will include music, fun activities, a group photo with all the cars, food, vendors, prizes and more. The race begins at 12:30 p.m. and is open to drivers ages 4 to adults.

However, Cool Dads Rock does more than an annual soap box derby. Throughout the year, Cool Dads Rock hosts an annual awards gala to help promote the derby, regularly meets for Dads, Donuts and Dialogue, family days at Cool Dads Rock in the Park and a Thanksgiving “Feed the Homeless” program. These help the network of fathers to build relationships with their children and other dads while giving back to the community. The mission of Cool Dads Rock is not only to make uncool dads cool and cool dads even cooler, but to bring awareness to and strengthen the bonds between fathers and their children.

Drivers in the soap box derby must be registered to participate. Additionally, Cool Dads Rock offers opportunities for sponsorship. Listen to today’s segment to learn more or visit the Cool Dads Rock website www.CoolDadsRock.com.
