Atlanta Real Estate Forum congratulates Meg Thompson for being named the 2016 Council Chairman of the Year during this year’s OBIE Awards. Presented by the Atlanta Sales and Marketing Council, the OBIE Awards are the premier awards given in the Atlanta new home construction industry.
The Chairman of the Year Award honors outstanding leadership and Meg is known for her inclusive and inspiring leadership style. Now a successful Realtor, Meg has worked with a variety of production and custom builders. She once oversaw the sales staff at twenty new home subdivisions. “I know and love new construction. I see the potential of each new home and each new neighborhood – not just the bricks and mortar, but also the relationships we help build,” she says. “We put neighbors into these homes.”
For more than three decades, Meg has been actively involved with Atlanta area home builders. She began her career with Centex Homes where she demonstrated her outstanding sales management and communication skills with both internal and external customers. Meg has been a steady member of the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association and has severed on a variety of councils and committees, including the Sales and Marketing Council and Professional Women in Building Council.
“In our industry, it is of vital importance to be a member and to be involved. The HBA is the voice for the small builder,” states Thompson. “Especially in view of today’s maze of regulations and government requirements, builders can rely on the expertise and advocacy of the HBA.”
Meg is also involved in the Professional Women in Building. In 2013, she was challenged to join the Executive Board and later became the 2016 Chair. Currently, this fast-growing and innovative Council includes more than 140 members, not including the PWB-sponsored Elevate group that was launched for building industry professionals under the age of 40.
To illustrate the objectives of Atlanta PWB, Educate – Empower – Connect, Meg and her Executive Board introduced a new informative and entertaining recruitment and retention video. Under Meg’s leadership, the active council collected more than $2,500 through its “Stock the House” campaign that provided household items for eight Phoenix Pass residences. To empower and assist students in the building industry, Atlanta PWB also awarded four scholarships in 2016. Always looking for new opportunities, Meg was instrumental in creating the private label wine “Heels & Hammers,” a new Atlanta PWB fundraising initiative for BUILD-PAC.
The Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association’s OBIE Awards celebrates its 36th anniversary in 2016. The awards began in 1980 and have grown throughout the years to include more than 100 building, remodeling, marketing and personal achievement categories. The OBIE Awards are named after the obelisk shape of the actual award given.
