This week’s edition of Atlanta Real Estate Forum Radio Show, Around Atlanta features hosts Todd Schnick and Carol Morgan discussing the Georgia Mountain Fair with General Manager Hilda Thomason.
Thomason has served at general manager since 1995 but has worked at the fairgrounds even longer. 2016 marks the festival’s 66 year anniversary with the first fair being held in 1950 according to Hilda.
The nine day fair is jam-packed with all types of entertainment, contests and of course, food. From live music to pioneer demonstrations, this festival has something for everyone. It opens Friday, July 15 and will last until Saturday, July 23 at the North Georgia Fairgrounds in Hiawassee Georgia, about 100 miles north of Atlanta.
This festival is a great way to experience the beauty of the North Georgia Mountains and Hilda said throughout the course of a year, about 250,000 people will come visit the fairgrounds for various events like the fair.
There are so many musical acts performing at the fair, many performing multiple shows a day. The fair kicks off Friday with a performance by Asleep at the Wheel and The Good Routes. Other musical performers throughout the week include Connie Smith, The Gibson Brothers and even Shenandoah.
Music isn’t the only thing that will be at the fair. Festival-goers can also expect to be transported back in time as they watch demonstrations of what life was really like during the pioneer days. Locals will be showing guests skills like blacksmithing and corn shucking.
For those who prefer a more modern take on a fair, don’t miss the B&K carnival which will have fun rides for all ages.
The festival will be a great, family friendly event but it will not be the only event at the fairgrounds. Several musical acts will be performing there the rest of the year including Tracy Lawrence and Jana Kramer in August, the Charlie Daniels Band in September and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band in October.
