Gabrielle Deculus, director of development with Southern Crescent Habitat for Humanity; and Jennifer Klippel, director of construction with Southern Crescent Habitat for Humanity (SCHH) join host Todd Schnick and co-host Bryan Nonni on this week’s All About Real Estate edition of the Atlanta Real Estate Forum Radio show.
Gabrielle Deculus fell in love with marketing back in college, and around that time, started her first business. Since then she has worked in marketing, branding and PR for many years. Deculus really enjoys applying her passions toward helping people in the non-profit arena.
Jennifer Klippel began working in construction about 13 years ago. She first became hooked after taking her students in her American government class to visit a Habitat for Humanity.
Southern Crescent Habitat for Humanity is located in Jonesboro, Georgia and serves Fayette, Henry and Clayton counties. “We service families, and we call them our partner families because we do not give away homes. We partner with families to help them get into home ownership,” explained Deculus. She continued, “We also partner with families to help them repair their homes, and we call this critical home repairs.”
The SCHH offers a wide range of services including financial literacy and home maintenance. SCHH wants families to thrive in their new home, so it provides its new homeowners with the necessary skills for effective homeownership.
“Each partner family contributes to the construction of their new home. We call is sweat equity,” explained Klippel. She continued, “Every new homeowner is required 300 hours of work: 250 on the work site and 50 in the classroom.” The three products offered by SCHH are new homes, rehabbed homes and critical home repairs. Critical home repairs include projects like a failing roof, leaky pipes or elderly homeowners in need of home modifications.
