Invest Atlanta’s Homeownership Manager, Frank George, is today’s All About Real Estate guest on Atlanta Real Estate Forum Radio. An economic development agency for the city of Atlanta, Invest Atlanta is charged with creating jobs, spurring growth and increasing the tax base in Atlanta.

A born and raised Atlanta native, Frank George graduated from Morris Brown College, and has been a part of the real estate industry for the past 15 years. In his role as homeownership manager, George assists individuals who want to purchase in Atlanta by offering different programs that provide incentives to go toward down payment assistance or living costs.

George describes the four different programs Invest Atlanta offers. The Vine City Renaissance Initiative provides a 0 percent interest rate loan of $10,000 for properties within the boundaries of Vine City. The HFA Preferred and HOME Atlanta 4.0 initiatives offer home buyers a 5 percent grant forgiven at closing to help with the down payment and closing costs. Finally, the Atlanta Affordable Homeownership Program, or AAHOP, provides $10,000 or $20,000 in home buyer incentives and covers up to 50 percent of the settlement costs.

All four of these plans assist in making dreams of homeownership come true provided that the potential applicant meets the eligibility requirements. As long as the home is in the city limits with taxes going to the city of Atlanta, and the applicant is within the eligible income bracket, these plans are within arm’s reach. The potential homeowner can qualify for up to all four incentives to assist in purchasing a home.

As the demand for living in Atlanta continues to grow, the list of applicants for these Invest Atlanta programs is expanding, but there is still availability. In the last year, Invest Atlanta assisted 157 people, and the year before, 256 people received assistance. “In one program, we have almost $60 million available. We want to give this money out. It’s not helping us to hold it,” says George.

Invest Atlanta will be hosting the Westside Trail Open House Walking Tour this Saturday, June 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Adair Park. Attendees will be able to talk to the experts as mortgage lenders and real estate agents will be present. Homes will be open for touring that have already been purchased and renovated through Invest Atlanta, as well as homes that are available for purchasing.
