Atlanta Ballet’s 55th season of “The Nutcracker” is featured on today’s Around Atlanta segment of Atlanta Real Estate Forum Radio. Kelly Brown, a stage manager with Atlanta Ballet, is on hand to discuss the Ballet and its magical performance of this time-honored holiday tradition.

The Atlanta Ballet is the oldest ballet company in the country, having been founded in 1929 by Dorothy Alexander. Currently in its 85th season, it is also the largest and most prominent company in the Southeast region of the United States.

The Atlanta Ballet once again presents The Nutcraker at the famous Fox Theatre. The story begins on Christmas Eve in St. Petersburg, Russia. After receiving a special toy nutcracker, Marya falls asleep and begins to dream, which is when the real magic begins. In this year’s production, attendees will continue to see the stunning custom-built scenery while they are introduced to new company dancers. Parts of this year’s performance will also be re-choreographed to showcase more students.

The first show will take place on Red Carpet Opening Night, which is Friday, Dec. 11 at 7:30 p.m., and it will run through Sunday, Dec. 28, 2014. Other special events that will take place throughout the production include Girls’ Night Out on Sunday, Dec. 14 at 7 p.m., Sports Night on Dec. 18 at 7:30 p.m. and the first-ever Give Back Weekend, which will be held Dec. 19 through 21. Friday, Dec. 19 is Red Cross Night, and the entire weekend, patrons are asked to donate new, unwrapped toys for Toys for Tots.

Tickets are now on sale for all performances of “The Nutcracker,” and prices start at just $20. In addition, the Ballet is currently offering a newcomer special for anyone new to the Atlanta area or the state of Georgia. To receive 25 percent off ticket prices, just use the promotional code 14NEWCOMER when purchasing tickets.

In addition to “The Nutcracker,” the Atlanta Ballet has a wide variety of performances planned for the remainder of the season. Patrons can attend a fresh and modern take on the classic love story, “Roméo et Juliette,” or see “Snow White” in February.

In March, the Atlanta Ballet will be performing the world premier of “Camino Real,” an adaptation of the Tennessee Williams play of the same name.
