Thinking about taking a vacation this summer? Consider a staycation instead! In a recent list from WalletHub, entitled “2014’s Best and Worst Cities for Staycations,” Atlanta ranked No. 15 of 100. The list was further broken down into rankings based on Recreation Activities, Food and Entertainment, Rest and Relaxation and Weather. Of the four categories, Atlanta fared highest in Recreation Activities at No. 6 and Food and Entertainment at No. 17.

Within the city, there are a wide range of attractions to catch your interest. If you have a love for animals, take a trip to the Georgia Aquarium or Zoo Atlanta. The Georgia Aquarium features a variety of exhibits for your enjoyment including Ocean Voyager, Dolphin Tales, Sea Monsters Revealed and more. At Zoo Atlanta, you can see any animal you could imagine, including America’s only twin pandas!

Two more of Atlanta’s highlights include the High Museum of Art and World of Coca-Cola. Along with their ongoing exhibits, the High Museum of Art is offering three temporary exhibits for the summer – Dream Cars, African Mask/Masquerade: More Than Meets the Eye and Splendor: The Work of Jim Waters. At the World of Coca-Cola Museum, guests will learn about the origin, mystery and magic surrounding the story of the secret formula, and pick and choose from over 100 Coca-Cola products to sample.

If you’re looking for a simple way to relax outdoors, Atlanta is home to more than 300 parks, nature preserves, gardens and public spaces. A few of the city’s most notable parks include Piedmont Park, Centennial Olympic Park, Inman Park and Chastain Park. Another relaxing outdoor attraction is the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, where guests can peruse through a wide variety of plants, flowers and artwork.
