The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) will be honoring its 2013 Designee of the Year award winners at this year’s International Builders Show in Las Vegas. The designee awards are given out to those individuals who have elevated the image of the designation in their local communities through charitable work or community projects and mentored others to start or complete NAHB professional designation.
“The NAHB strives to improve professionalism among our members and elevate the industry through education. We strongly encourage builders, remodelers and other housing professionals to reach the next stage in their careers by earning an NAHB designation,” said Erik Anderson, CAPS, CGB, CGR, GMB, chair of the NAHB Education Committee and a builder from Winston-Salem, N.C. “By presenting the Designee of the Year awards each year, NAHB honors individuals who fully embody these ideals and stand out as leading professionals in their fields.”
Michael Turner, a past president of the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association (GAHBA), was honored as one of the 11 NAHB 2013 Designee’s of the Year. Turner received this honor for his designation as a Graduate Master Remodeler (GMR), but that is just one of the many designations he has achieved. Turner has also been named a Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist, Certified Green Professional, Certified Graduate Remodeler and a Graduate Master Builder. Currently, Turner is the vice president of The Home Service Store in Kennesaw.
Turner will be honored at this year’s ceremony along with 10 other housing professionals from around the country who have all helped to elevate the image of NAHB professional designations. The honorees were selected by their designation’s respective board of governors. The board chose the winners for each designation based on the successful promotion of their professional designation to consumers, other NAHB members and others in the building industry through cutting-edge techniques.
The National Association of Home Builders is a trade organization that represents more than 140,000 members involved in home building, remodeling, multifamily construction, property management, subcontracting, design, housing finance, building product manufacturing and other aspects of residential and light commercial construction. The NAHB is affiliated with 800 state and local home builders associations around the country, and its members will construct about 80 percent of the new housing units projected for this year.
