Are you sad the summer is almost over and upset that you will no longer get to visit some of the city’s most popular outdoor attractions? Are you already mourning the end of lazy summer days of laying by the pool? Well, Six Flags Over Georgia has given us all something to look forward to! Next summer, they will be opening a gigantic new water park!

With the groundbreaking scheduled for this month, the addition of the new multi-million dollar Hurricane Harbor water park will be the biggest expansion in the park’s 46-year history. The water park will have a Caribbean getaway feel, with tropical landscaping and beach scenery that will make visitors feel like they are on a beach vacation in paradise.

Planned attractions at Hurricane Harbor include an 800,000-gallon, 38,000 square foot wave pool that will simulate the feel of the ocean by producing waves as large as four feet high. The Tsunami Surge will be a dual-slide complex that drops rides down an enclosed five-story drop, sends them twirling around a 40-foot-wide bowl and then drops them into a zero-gravity fall into the pool below. Another slide feature, the Bonzai Pipelines, will send adventurers soaring through winding curves, dark tunnels and swirling bowls as they make their way to the bottom. Paradise Island, a children’s activity area, will feature miniature slides, an interactive water playground, drenching towers and many other water elements.

Hurricane Harbor, which is scheduled to open Memorial Day weekend of 2014, will be free with park admission.

The addition of this new tropical paradise, which promises plenty of fun in the sun for next summer, is just another great reason to call Atlanta home!
