HomeAid Atlanta, a non-profit organization working in partnership with the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association (GAHBA), recently partnered with several local businesses to provide two days of improvements to organizations for the homeless.

Bank of America, the Atlanta Remodelers Council of the GAHBA and Pace Drywall all assisted HomeAid Atlanta in upgrading facilities at Genesis – A New Life Shelter and the Community Advanced Practice Nurses (CAPN) office. Both organizations are non-profits, and lack the necessary funds to make improvements to their space, which is where HomeAid Atlanta stepped in.

On July 25 and 26, volunteers from the groups gathered at the homes of both Genesis and CAPN and worked to complete an extensive list of jobs. Bank of America had 10 employees on hand, the Atlanta Remodelers Council had 15 members in attendance and Aycock Properties also sent volunteers to help complete the projects. In addition, Bank of America donated $4,000 to assist with materials and the Atlanta Remodelers Council offered additional material donations. Pace Drywall made a donation of labor in the form of professional painters.

Thanks to the effort of everyone involved, Genesis received a new accordion-style door to separate a classroom, new storage shelving, repairs to an exterior storage area and fence, cabinetry repairs, new countertops in the dining hall and lobby area, installation of new tile flooring and thresholds and a freshly painted hallway. The CAPN facilities received new shelving, new bathroom fixtures and a professional painting job. All together, the improvements were valued at more than $10,000!

HomeAid strives to at least double each dollar donated for projects through additional donations of labor and materials, which was accomplished at Genesis and CAPN .

“July 25th was a beautiful day at Genesis.  We had a tremendous team of volunteers from Atlanta Remodelers Council and Bank of America doing amazing work throughout the building,” said Nancy Friauf, Executive Director at Genesis. “Genesis runs on an extremely tight budget; we never would have had the funds to accomplish these much-needed renovations without the tremendous gift of time and talent by HomeAid, Atlanta Remodelers Council and Bank of America.  Families come to us at a time of crisis, and these families feel valued and cared for when Genesis can greet them with a warm, welcoming, attractive and well-maintained space.  We are so grateful to Atlanta Remodelers Council, Bank of America and HomeAid for creating this space for the babies and families we serve.  Our deepest thanks!”

In/Ex Systems, Inc., Sherwin Williams, Ferguson Enterprises and Pizzeria Vesuvius also provided donations or discounts to help make an even greater impact for Genesis and CAPN. HomeAid Atlanta would like to extend their appreciation for all of the support from the organizations in the community to make this project such a great success.
