Recent data from Metrostudy reveals the top Atlanta homebuilders. This list is different from the Atlanta Business Chronicle’s Top 10 Atlanta Homebuilders, as it ranks builders by data as recorded in public records (Recorded Deeds). The Atlanta Business Chronicle rankings are based on surveys submitted by each individual homebuilder. So, if one major builder neglects to turn in the survey, the results are then skewed and not necessarily accurate.

The top 10 Atlanta homebuilders, ranked by Market Share of Annual Closings:

  1. D.R. Horton – 6.2%
  2. Pulte – 5.5%
  3. Crown Communities – 5.0%
  4. Peachtree Communities – 4.7%
  5. Ashton Woods – 4.1%
  6. Wilson Parker Homes – 3.5%
  7. Ryland Homes – 2.8%
  8. Lennar – 2.7%
  9. Beazer – 2.4%
  10. Traton – 2.4%

These top 10 builders sold 39 percent of the markets 8,675 homes closed during the calendar year 2012. Five of them are publicly held builders that comprise 20 percent of the market.

The top 10 Atlanta homebuilders, ranked by Market Share of Total Sales Price (revenue) in 2012:

  1. D.R. Horton – 4.7%
  2. Pulte – 3.8%
  3. Ashton Woods – 3.3%
  4. Lennar – 2.9%
  5. Ryland Homes – 2.6%
  6. Traton – 2.5%
  7. Crown – 2.2%
  8. Beazer – 2.0%
  9. Sharp Residential – 1.9%
  10. John Wieland Homes – 1.8%

These percentages are based on total market revenue of 2.2 billion dollars.

In this second ranking, all of the publically held builders remain in the top 10. But, four of the five lost market share, Lennar being the exception. Local builders, Wilson Parker Homes and Peachtree Communities, targeting primarily first time homebuilders do not make this list. Local companies, Sharp Residential and John Wieland Homes, known primarily for higher priced  move-up homes rise to take their places in the top 10.

In this ranking, the top ten builders comprise 29 percent of market share.
