According to a report in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, next week is going to be rough for commuters in Johns Creek, Ga. With the Atlanta Athletic Club hosting the 93rd PGA Championship from August 11 to 14, an influx of tourists is inevitable.

According to tournament officials, the golf event is expected to draw crowds of 50,000 per day. The high volume of traffic is especially concerning for those who travel on Medlock Bridge Road, which is congested even on a good day.

Some are blaming the impending traffic woes on Tiger Woods (he recently announced that he will be playing the course.) However, PGA officials had been planning for capacity crowds regardless.

To make your morning commute less migraine-inducing, you may want to plan an alternate route to work that avoids Medlock Bridge Road.

As far as tourists are concerned, transportation officials are advising visitors to use shuttle buses from the Gwinnett Center in Duluth when going to and from the tournament. They warn that parking is extremely limited near the event, with most of the spaces reserved for vendors, staff, VIPs and news media. If you plan on attending the event and walking, 5,000 feet of barricades have been installed along the highway from Medlock Crossing to the Atlanta Athletic Club. Officials advise using the 140-feet-long pedestrian bridge constructed two weeks ago.

Regardless of whether you plan to attend the event or not, its effects will certainly be felt by Johns Creek residents. With an increased volume of cars on the road, be alert and cautious at all times.
