Relaxing out in the wide open spaces, cool breeze and beauty of nature with friends and family is the perfect way to unplug. That’s why the Georgia Department of Natural Resources State Parks & Historic Sites along with the Coca-Cola Company is sponsoring a free day in the parks on Saturday, Sept. 25 as part of National Public Lands Day. This day celebrates and honors all of the park visitors and volunteers that support historic preservation and outdoor recreation.

On this special day, all fees to enter the parks are waived, historic sites open for free and fishing licenses will not be required. Plus, a vast array of family-friendly events are scheduled. Have an outdoor adventure day at Unicoi, join the pioneer harvest festival at General Coffee or a childrens’ fishing rodeo at Indian Springs. Don’t forget about all of the traditional outdoor adventures of hiking, biking and picnicking.

The customary $5 parking fee is also waived on this day, however voluntary contributions are always welcome. Visitors are only required to pay for rental facilities, lodging and activities such as canoe rental and miniature golf.
