Volunteers from The Building Owners and Managers Association of Georgia (BOMA) joined HomeAid Atlanta in early March to pack 500 CareKits for individuals experiencing homelessness in the metro area. Containing items such as hand sanitizer, water, snacks, toiletries, bandages and other essential items, CareKits help meet the immediate hunger and hygiene needs of those struggling or at risk of homelessness in metro Atlanta.

The CareKits recipient, The Elizabeth Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of homeless individuals residing in abandoned buildings, encampments and under bridges. Established in 2018, the nonprofit’s founder Tracy Thompson previously battled with abuse, addiction and homelessness before turning her life around and starting The Elizabeth Foundation. The foundation’s mission is to build relationships with and strive to help those experiencing homelessness and lead them toward a path of rehabilitation for addiction as well as aid with physical impairments and mental disorders.

Each Sunday, The Elizabeth Foundation distributes clothing and food to known areas with homeless populations. For individuals, the foundation regularly provides housing resources, hotel stays, MARTA cards, hygiene supplies, payment for medications, job placements and more.

“What an absolute blessing to receive this gift of 500 HomeAid CareKits to help those that are less fortunate. It literally takes a village to minister to so many in need and we could not do so without the help of wonderful organizations like HomeAid. Thank you so much for all you do,” said The Elizabeth Foundation Board Member, Marie Hurt.

This collaboration marks the seventh time BOMA Georgia has volunteered with HomeAid Atlanta. To date, association volunteers have participated in six HomeAid Care Days. The one-day sessions provide much-needed assistance and maintenance for nonprofits serving the metro area’s homeless population.

“We are so thankful to have this ongoing partnership with BOMA Georgia. We weren’t able to work with them in 2020, and they must have missed us, because this year we have three different volunteer efforts with our friends at BOMA! Over the years, we estimate that their volunteers have saved our service provider partners over $275,000,” said Mandy Crater, HomeAid Atlanta Executive Director.

The HomeAid Atlanta mission of serving those experiencing or at risk for homelessness has been helping build new lives for over 20 years. Since 2001, HomeAid Atlanta has been building, renovating and maintaining facilities for nonprofits aiding those experiencing homelessness. To date, the organization has completed over 170 construction projects at locations for victims of domestic violence, veterans, teen mothers and more by utilizing connections within the homebuilding industry.
