Sue Gilman, Executive Director, and Kalin Thomas, Program Director, of the Wren’s Nest join host Todd Schnick and co-host Bryan Nonni on the Around Atlanta edition of the Atlanta Real Estate Forum radio show.

The Wren’s Nest is the oldest house museum in Atlanta, and the home of Joel Chandler Harris, the person who wrote down the Burr Rabbit and Burr Fox stories in the 1800’s. In 1884, the Harris’s restored it. In 1913, the house became a museum and tours commenced. The home is a great example of a Victorian home in Atlanta. In addition to the tours, the home has a group of professional storytellers called the Wren’s Nest ramblers who tell stories every Saturday.

The Wren’s Next is over 100 years old! “We celebrated our 100th Anniversary two years ago, but we still celebrate it today because we figure when you’re this old, you can celebrate as long as you want,” said Sue Gilman.

The home holds a number of different festivals in the Spring including Jazz festivals, health festivals and other events hosted in the home’s backyard. “Our backyard has a host of tables, chairs and a stage making it perfect for these events,” said Kalin Thomas.

A troupe of four famous storytellers tell stories around the Southeast, and these four are regulars at the Wren’s Nest. The setting at the Wren’s Nest is very intimate making for a profound experience for audiences of a story. Many attendees report a fond appreciate for the scale of the setting in the home. Storytellers in the Wren’s Nest are more than voice-over speakers; these storytellers are true performers.

The Wren’s Nest is located in a designated historic area in Atlanta called The West End. Sitting on two-and-a-half acres, the home is located in a Historic African-American neighborhood with Ralph David Abernathy’s church just down the road.
