HomeAid Atlanta is excited to announce it is a finalist for the Pella Corporation’s Hope At Work Award. This award seeks out organizations that exemplify a community spirit and perform its civic duty at a degree higher than others. As a reward, the Pella Corporation will award one organization with the most votes $50,000 as a recognition of its hard work and dedication to the community. The public can vote on participants until Monday, August 24, 2020. Each participant was nominated by a Pella branch and determined by leaders in the company. This year, 26 hard-working organizations are vying for the $50,000.
“We are so excited that our friends from Pella nominated us for the Hope At Work Award,” said Mandy Crater, HomeAid Atlanta Executive Director. “We work closely with the building industry on everything we do to build new lives for families and individuals experiencing homelessness in metro Atlanta. This honor is just an extension of that great relationship and winning would really help us meet the challenge for housing anticipated in the wake of COVID-19.”
To determine the winner, the Pella Corporation set up a simple voting system that lasts about three weeks. Friends, family members, employees, community members and anyone else wishing to participate can vote on the winner. Voters only need an email to cast a vote daily at pella.wyng.com/HopeAtWork. After the three weeks have commenced, the nominee with the most votes will receive the $50,000 reward from the Pella Corporation.
“Building hope takes vision, hard work and all of us,” said Nicolle Picray, public relations manager at Pella Corporation. “When faced with adversity these organizations have risen to support their communities. They have gone above and beyond to solve challenges and help people. We’re proud to honor and recognize each finalist.”
HomeAid Atlanta is a nonprofit organization that works to serve homeless families and individuals in the Atlanta area by building and renovating living spaces throughout the city. Especially in the wake of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, low-income renters have been impacted greatly. HomeAid Atlanta currently has several large-scale projects in the works or planned for the near future to provide even more housing for the homeless population in metro Atlanta. Most recently, HomeAid Atlanta completed its annual Essentials Drive. The Essentials Drive is thrown every year before Mother’s Day to collect diapers, wipes and other necessities for babies and children. These materials are collected and distributed to over 20 organizations in the Atlanta area to help families with young children experiencing homelessness. This year, over 50,000 items were volunteered. Additionally, HomeAid Atlanta volunteers packed and distributed over 500 hygiene kits in July. These kits were used to help the homeless and low-income populations in the area.
