AREF ATL Attractions

Long days, warm nights, the kids have been out of school for a few weeks – summer is in full swing! Keeping the kids entertained throughout the summer months without breaking the bank can require lots of creativity, or else the kids may just end up lounging in front of the tv or video games all summer long. Beat the dog days of summer by checking out a few of these Atlanta attractions:

Piedmont Park

AREF Piedmont ParkLocated in midtown Atlanta, Piedmont Park offers a wide variety of free entertainment for the whole family to enjoy. The playgrounds are filled with different jungle gyms, so you can be sure all your kids’ energy will be spent by the time the day is over. Bring your furry companion along for a day of fun, too, and let them make new friends across the three-acre dog park. You can even take one of the park’s walking tours, which are free and open to all ages. And, after spending your day running from the playground to the lake to the lawn, you can head to the park’s aquatic center and pool, where you can purchase a one visit, half season or full season pass. For even more long-term fun, Piedmont Park offers weekly nature summer camps for kids!

Historic Fourth Ward Park

Located just south of Piedmont Park and along the BeltLine, the Historic Fourth Ward Park is another great outdoor space for both kids and adults. With large lawns, playgrounds, an outdoor theater, skatepark, athletic field and a scenic lake, the park is the perfect place to spend the day. It even features a large, multi-jet splashpad to help you cool off during the hottest parts of the day. In addition, the park’s location on the BeltLine gives you easy access to the many attractions along the trail – like nearby Ponce City Market, Illuminarium Atlanta or any one of the many restaurants in the area.

World of Coca-Cola

Located downtown, the World of Coke is one of the city’s largest attractions. With a tour exploring the bottling process, a sampling room and even a 3D theater, it’s an easy way to stay cool and learn more about a product that so many of us know and love! The sampling room features more than 100 different sodas from all around the world, which alone makes the admission price more than worth it! Tickets range from $15-19 per person, but it’s a fun way to spend an afternoon, and the best part – it’s located right next to Centennial Olympic Park, the Georgia Aquarium, SkyView Atlanta and more!

Museum of Design Atlanta

If you’re hoping to save your kids from the “summer brain drain,” then MODA is the place to go! Located in Midtown and open Wednesday-Sunday, MODA offers different exhibits showcasing how design affects people’s everyday lives. It also offers unique interactive exhibits for kids that will teach them more about technology and design. The museum even has guided tours that are well worth the $10 ticket price! And if that wasn’t enough, the museum also offers different STEM-related summer camps for children.

Whether you want to spend your summer indoors or enjoy the great outdoors despite the heat, there are plenty of options throughout metro Atlanta to keep the kids entertained!
