Cox Conserves is cycling its way to a lower environmental impact with collaboration and innovation, and having fun in the process. On today’s segment of Around Atlanta on Atlanta Real Estate Forum Radio, Jami Buck-Vance with Cox Conserves joins co-hosts Carol Morgan and Todd Schnick to talk about Cox’s environmental initiatives.

To celebrate their tenth anniversary, Cox Conserves, the national sustainability program from Cox Enterprises, partnered with Atlanta Bicycle Coalition for Atlanta Streets Alive to show Atlanta how easy it can be to cycle the city. Buck-Vance pointed to recent traffic woes as just one more reason why cycling as transportation is a good option for Atlanta. The goal of the event is to promote cycling on city streets. Specific roads will be closed on June 11 and again in September, in both directions, to allow people of all ages to experience cycling downtown. Anyone can join in, at any time, and at any point on the route. Participants need not travel the entire route’s mileage, and they are encouraged to travel to the route sites by cycle or Marta. Buck-Vance reminds listeners that Google Maps provides navigation for cyclists and pedestrians.

Streets Alive is just the most public aspect of Cox Conserve’s initiatives, though. With the goal, Buck-Vance said, of zero-waste to landfill by 2024 and to become carbon and water neutral by 2044, Cox encourages every one of the 60,000 employees nationwide to participate.

She says they are able to get company buy-in with the internal website for idea sharing, and she says that most of their implemented ideas have come through this sharing site. Further, the company offers incentives for carpoolers, electric car drivers, and more.
