Jillian Pritchard Cooke, founder of Wellness Within Your Walls, is in studio for today’s episode of Atlanta Real Estate Forum Radio. Joined by co-hosts Carol Morgan and Todd Schnick, Cooke is on this segment of All About Real Estate to discuss her unique business, explain the certification program and talk about past projects.
Cooke started as an interior designer over 30 years ago, with most of her experience being in homebuilding. She has worked all over the country, including New York and the West Coast. Her time working on the West Coast led to training and exposure to several sustainability and green thinking concepts well before it became a national conversation. Cooke moved to Atlanta in 1983 and became the head of five separate design studios in cities all around metro Atlanta. This process taught her all about regional design and different process builders use.
Several years ago, before Wellness Within Your Walls was created, Cooke was diagnosed with a rare form of tissue cancer. The cancer was later confirmed to be a result of environmental issues. After the diagnoses and findings concerning the origin of the disease, Cooke made the decision to figure out the specific environmental causes that led to the illness. This launched Cooke farther into the sustainability and wellness side of interior design and homebuilding.
“There are only a few times where the home is very, very toxic,” said Cooke. “There are ways to dissipate the toxins by making wise choices. That led me my new calling in life. With over 30 years in interior design, I started to create Wellness Within Your Walls.”
Wellness Within Your Walls is designed to help builders, designers, architects, specifiers, manufacturers and others involved in home building to come up with alternative ways to create houses. While the company is designed to help members of the home building team, the number one concern is for the consumer.
Offering a wide range of certifications tailored to the design and build process, Wellness Within Your Walls allows consumers to easily find healthier homes more efficiently. The company certifies people, places, products and programs.
Wellness Within Your Walls focuses on every single aspect of the home building process, all the way down to insulation. Because of the debate surrounding several products and methods used, including spray foam, rock wall and fiberglass, Wellness Within Your Walls believes in only using a GREENGUARD Gold Certification insulation. This is just one example of many details that go into creating a healthy home built from the inside out.
Wellness Within Your Walls recently certified its first home: the Chōwa Concept Home. Members of the Chōwa team in Las Vegas reached out to Cooke, believing their house met all of the certification requirements. The Chōwa Concept Home was designed to focus on the new wave of homebuyers wanting to spend their money in ethical ways. Everything in the Chōwa Concept Home is sustainably sourced, with any waste put towards a recycling program.
