christmas tree upside down in recycling bin

Now that the holiday festivities are over, you may be wondering what to do with that Christmas tree that is still sitting in your house. Luckily, many Georgia cities, counties and organizations have combined their efforts to make recycling your tree near your Atlanta new home easy.

We have compiled a list including most of metro Atlanta’s counties and where to take your live Christmas tree. If your county isn’t listed below, be sure to find out where you can take your tree to be recycled.

Various Locations

  • Bring One for the Chipper: Celebrating more than 30 years of tree-cycling, Keep Georgia Beautiful is once again partnering with The Home Depot, The Davey Tree Expert Company, Georgia Forestry Commission and WXIA-TV for their annual tree recycling program on Saturday, January 8. The mulch from these trees is used in playgrounds, local government beautification projects, parks and individual yards. Some trees are transformed into fish habitats at local lakes, in certain communities. You can click here for a complete list of participating locations. Before attending this event, be sure to remove all ornaments and lights. The tree can not contain any flocking material on it.
  • Big John’s Christmas Tree Removal: One of Atlanta’s largest Christmas tree providers, this company will also come to your home and haul away your tree at the end of the season. The cost for removal varies on tree size, so email bigjohnstreeremoval@gmail.com or text/call 404-333-2834 to schedule your appointment and learn more. The last day to take advantage of these services is Monday, January 10.

Dekalb County

  • Dekalb County residents who receive sanitation services can place their tree at the curb for pick up on regular yard waste collection days. If your tree is taller than seven feet, please cut it in half before placing it at your curb. The recycled trees are used as wildlife habitat or chipped into mulch, which is used for public beautification projects and given for free to county residents. This service is offered for the whole month of January.

Cobb County

  • Cobb County partners with the Bring One for the Chipper program, so the best way to recycle your non-flocked tree is to find the Home Depot location near you accepting trees. This occurs on the first Saturday in January from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Cherokee County

Drop off your live tree at the Canton Collection Site located at 2525 Ridge Road from Jan. 2 to Jan. 30, 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Saturday except for Wednesday. There is no curbside pickup of trees, so please mark your calendars and join us to recycle your tree this year.
