Atlantans are encouraged to join the 7-Day Plastic Challenge begins Monday, April 18 and ends on Sunday, April 24.  Because disposable plastics are anything but disposable, GreenPlate has developed this 7 day challenge. During this time you are encouraged to eliminate the use of single-use items, such as straws, plastic wrap or coffee lids. The is your chance to help eliminate the plastic epidemic.

The 7-Day Plastic Challenge is a fun way for people to learn about the prevalence of disposable plastic in our society, as well as steps to take to reduce their use of it. The challenge consists of 7 steps – one for each day of the week.

  1. Day 1 of the 7 Day Challenge involves not using a plastic straw
  2. Day 2 encourages the use of aluminum cans or glass bottles rather than disposable plastic ones
  3. Day 3 promotes the use of reusable cloth bags rather than plastic or paper ones
  4. Day 4 involves eliminating plastics and Styrofoam from the traditional “to go” routine
  5. Day 5 entails being mindful of and making purchases with less packaging at the supermarket
  6. Day 6 asks challenge-takers to pay attention to the unnecessary plastic usage in their house
  7. Day 7 encourages recycling in any and every way possible.
