fillmore TOUR Championship

Every September, 30 of the PGA Tour’s best golfers gather in Atlanta to compete for top-notch prizes and to have their name listed in golf history. On today’s Around Atlanta episode, Allison Fillmore, Executive Director of the PGA Tour – TOUR Championship, gives our listeners details about the most elite field in golf, facts about the Tour tournament and all the elements visitors will find in Atlanta.

The TOUR Championship is a really important event for golf and for the city of Atlanta. As a true sports fan, Fillmore has had her share of the Atlanta sports industry. She began her Atlanta career working with the Falcons. After five years in the ticket sales department, she was one of the first hires for the Atlanta Dream and helped build the team from the ground up. She then moved to an account executive role at Atlanta Motor Speedway and was quickly promoted to vice president of sales. In May 2017, she received a call from the PGA Tour and she is now fulfilling her true calling.

September 19 through the 23, the 30 best golf players in the world return to the home turf of Atlanta hero and legendary golfer, Bobby Jones, to compete for the fame and fortune of the FedExCup. The winner will claim 2,000 FedExCup points and take home the famous FedExCup trophy. The winner of the tournaments, not just the player with the most points, will also receive $10 million.

East Lake possesses an undeniable history and thanks to the $20 million in proceeds from operations, the area has transformed into one of the most sought-after spaces in Atlanta. The TOUR Championship alone has generated more than $26 million for local Atlanta charities since the tournament has been hosted at East Lake Golf Club, primarily benefiting the East Lake Foundation and the First Tee.

This year, a more fan-friendly atmosphere has been created by incorporating local food partners, a beer garden, wine lounge and more. A new 1904 club has also been established this year which is the most exclusive tickets offer for the event. This new club is limited to 500 members and will allow the opportunity to rub elbows with the players, as well as enjoy meals from celebrity chefs and experience incredible views.
