The residents at Soleil Laurel Canyon love to enjoy the finer things in life in the 55+ age-restricted community: outdoor concerts at the amphitheater, gardening in the classically designed community garden, wine tastings with neighbors and more. Another thing the residents enjoy: giving back to the area that they call home.
Soleil Laurel Canyon homeowners love to support charitable causes throughout Cherokee County. In the month of May alone, the community raised more than $10,000 for two worthy causes.
The Soleil Tennis Club held its inaugural charity tennis tournament to benefit the Ralph Bunche Center, a preschool that is less than three miles from the active adult community.
The two-day tournament was full of competition, social events, a silent auction and raffle. Business sponsors in the community also donated to the event. The benefit grossed $8,400 that will be used to purchase materials for the unit, which will be assembled by Soleil master craftsmen.
Soleil Laurel Canyon’s Veteran’s Club raised $2,200 during a breakfast fundraiser May 21. The money raised will be used to support active military, veterans and their families throughout the Cherokee County and Northwest Georgia area that are in need.
The event, held at Soleil’s clubhouse, featured Cherokee High School’s Air Force Junior ROTC color guard and drill team who performed the Presentation of Colors, Pledge of Allegiance and national anthem. The Soleil Singers were also on hand to perform a concert of military songs while guests enjoyed a hearty breakfast. Memorabilia from World War II was on display throughout the lobby of the clubhouse, showcasing ration books, propaganda posters, military hardware and more. A military Humvee greeted guests outside of the clubhouse, presented by B Troop 1-109 Calvary of the Canton, Ga., Army National Guard.
