Mediterranean-style Sea Island Property

Sea Island, known for its resort-style homes and gorgeous sea views is a popular getaway for Georgia residents and a vacation home magnet for prominent celebrities such as Tyler Perry and Steve Harvey. Recently, a stunning Spanish-style home sold for a record-breaking $27.5 million, marking a record price point in this prime Georgia market. Part of the Golden Isles of Georgia, which includes Brunswick, Jekyll Island, St. Simons Island and Little St. Simons Island, Sea Island has been a popular tourist spot since 1928. The vacation spot offers visitors access to five miles of private beaches, a tennis center, a beach club and plenty of lodging options for a quick getaway or extended escape.

The record-breaking property was originally purchased by Bill Killgallon, a forefather of the world-famous Etch-a-Sketch toy and the former chairman of Ohio Arts. Killgallon and his wife built a home that would garner fame as the backdrop of the famous miniseries, “A Season in Purgatory,” starring Brian Dennehy and Patrick Dempsey. In 1999, the Argenbright family purchased and razed the Killgallon home to build the record-setting Mediterranean-style mansion which overlooks a private seascape on the Atlantic Ocean accessed via a private boardwalk.

The property highlights two stories of Spanish-style oceanfront grandeur, including balconies stretching across the rear of the home and access to the backyard and pool area granted through several sets of French doors shaded by arched columns and an expansive veranda. The gated and walled estate grounds afford privacy and exclusive access to some of the best views on the southern coast of Georgia.

The home’s interior showcases plush living spaces such as a wine tower with more than 3,000 bottles, large rooms bathed in gorgeous, natural light and an award-winning Tuscan theater designed by Theo Kalomirakis, a renowned pioneer in the design and development of opulent home theaters. Other luxury features include an expansive pool and spa, breathtaking ocean views and ample outdoor and beachfront living space.

Broker Al Brown, president of Al Brown Company, orchestrated the sale of the island property and connected the anonymous buyer with a previous client to sell the 14,655 square foot home. The Sea Island real estate market has experienced great success in the first half of 2021, with an average of 3.9 percent growth in the prime market and a 44.8 percent increase in general sales volume compared to the previous year. The combined sales of condominiums, homes and residential lots also experienced a 74 percent increase when measured against last year’s numbers.
